Pass on what
you learned

If you have personal experience of dialysis, you could become a Renally mentor and help someone feel less alone.

You know what dialysis is actually like

Living with dialysis teaches you things that are hard to understand until you experience them yourself: the day-to-day realities, the challenges, and what helped you adjust.

Someone else may value hearing about your experience.

As a mentor, you can listen and share what dialysis was like for you, while recognising that everyone's experience is different.

Share your own experiences

Being a Renally mentor is about listening and sharing what you have experienced yourself. You might talk about:

  • Everyday life with dialysis
  • Tiredness and energy
  • Work and daily routines
  • Adjusting to dialysis
  • Travel and time away from home
  • Discussing dialysis with your loved ones
  • Things you found useful in your own experience

You choose what you feel comfortable talking about. Nobody expects you to have every answer or to go back over parts of your experience that you would rather not discuss.

A conversation between two people who understand each other

  • You talk one-to-one

Video calls with one mentee at a time. Never a group, never public.

  • You choose when

You set your own availability in the platform. You can take a break from mentoring at any time.

  • You share your experience

You talk about your own experience of dialysis. Questions about health or treatment should go to the person’s care team.

  • You are guided

No mentoring experience is needed. Your personal experience of dialysis is what matters. You'll complete short guidance before you begin.

Mentor in a way that works for you

Build your own profile with information about yourself and your experience, and set your own availability. You are not automatically paired with anyone, and you're not obliged to continue speaking with the same person. You can take a break at any time.

Manage your own schedule

Cancel sessions if your availability changes

Pause mentoring when you need to

Share only what you're comfortable with

We help you feel ready

Before you begin mentoring, you'll answer a few questions and complete a short guidance. You can save your progress and come back to it when you need to.

The guidance helps you understand:

  • 1 Your role as a mentor
  • 2 Mentoring do's and don'ts
  • 3 How to handle different situations
  • 4 How to use Renally
  • 5 What to do if you need help
